Yesterday saw the official opening of The Saxon Pavilion and The Simon Terry Range, Chorley Bowmen’s beautiful new facility.

We were delighted to have Lindsay Hoyle MP and our associate member, Paralympian John Stubbs MBE in attendance to cut the ribbon, unveil our commemorative plaque and throw open the range doors officially!

Sir Lindsay helped the club secure it’s current location nearly 25 years ago when our previous field was lost, so it was wonderful to have him back and show him how much it has changed since the days of a lumpy field with one lonely shipping container in a corner!

We are beyond grateful to Chorley Council, Alistair Morwood, Michael Forster and John Ambrose. Particular heartfelt thanks to Lindsey Blackstock, who worked so hard on this.

They all understood our vision and committed so much to this project.

To see archery get some backing and investment has been utterly refreshing. The council and its exec’s have seen and acknowledged how archery truly is a sport for all, unlike any other, to see them champion this sport is encouraging.

We look forward to growing as a club, supporting our membership, developing, teaching the community, young and old, in this beautiful purpose built facility.

Here’s to the next 25 years!

A final few acknowledgements must be made:

  • Sport England for their belief and investment.
  • Steve Wells Associates for design and planning, special thanks to Steve Wells and in particular Dean.
  • Wade Group for construction, special thanks to Roy and Matt.
  • Niamh Victoria for logo design
  • Greg and Barbara Grogan for photos and constant support to the club and it’s committee.

Some fabulous local businesses who helped supply us with the finishing touches

  • Steve Gill Joinery for target wall construction
  • Archery World for supply of target wall foam
  • Taylors Memorials for commemorative stone
  • B. Livesey Ltd Funeral Director for commemorative plaque
  • Quality Food Fayre for beautiful catering on the day.

The final thanks go to the committee of Chorley Bowmen. “It always seems impossible ’til its done.”

We did it guys, we did it!
